This is my story (and I'm sticking to it)
I'm a Marine Corps brat. My drill sergeant dad kept all five of us in line while my mom tried to keep all of us alive. I actually had a charmed childhood. My parents just celebrated 51 years together! I have been with my bride 18 years now and with a little help from God we may get to 51. I have been in radio for ** years. I have worked in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and even made a side trip to Indiana. I spent a longggggggggggggg time in Lake Charles. I moved here from there. I love it here. Clear channel is a great company and all of the people here at Clear Channel Beaumont are my friends. We are like a big goofy family. Our staff meetings usually turn into laugh fest. It's amazing that we ever get anything done. Somehow we always do very well in the ratings. I have now broadcast through three hurricanes (Lilly, Rita and Humberto). I would do it again but hope I never have to. I hope to be here in Beaumont a very long time. I will never retire but I'd like to grow old here. Let's just not rush that growing old thing. Drop me a line or give me a call. I'd love to hear from you. I try to update my journal every day. It's great to read when you can't sleep. It will have you sawing logs in no time

Hurricanes just keep on coming

Where will that nasty Russian hurricane go? It looks like it's making a path for the Louisiana coast between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. That would put New Orleans on the dirty side of the storm. I guess we'll find out how well they rebuilt the levees. They will get a big tidal surge and a lot of rain. Then we have Hannah out there. It looks like they are predicting she will cross Florida and head into the gulf next. It's still very early on both of these storms. We did post a new weather page and there is a link on the mix1045.com home page. It has all the hurricane information you could ever want. It even shows the tracks of all the various models. I personally have found The National Hurricane Center track to be the most accurate although it can change with every new report.

We worked on the KKMY on-air music library the past few days. You will hear some fresh titles in the next few days.

I have lost nine pounds since I started going to the Health and Wellness center. I start my day there at five am. I have just been working on aerobic machines and on my abs so far. I will probably start light weights next week. I have also been on a pretty strict diet. I start with a bowl of Total after my work out. I have carrot and celery sticks, tuna and fat free crackers for lunch. I eat a sensible dinner and cook with very lean meat and hold off on the butter and cheese. I snack on fruit in-between meals. It's working so far. I've been ask to model in two fashion shows. One of these shows is in September and one is in October. I really would like to be thinner so I won't be embarrassed. I don't know why the organizers of these shows want to scare the audience but I'm glad to help. LOL

Send me some jokes!

Where is this darn Russian hurricane going? I'm in favor of it just fizzling out! It does not look like that is going to happen. At this point in time it looks like a Louisiana landfall but there is a lot of time for things to change. I am prepared. I went at lunch today and bought batteries, water and hurricane food. I also filled up my car. It is not a bad idea to do these things early because if you wait until the weekend you may be in trouble. These things don't go bad and eventually you will use them all anyway so why not stock up? It's also a good idea to refill all prescriptions now and get all your important papers in one location in case an evacuation is ordered. This will be a major hurricane no matter where it makes landfall. I have a feeling that we will have a pretty good idea about the landfall location by tomorrow morning. It looks like a wet labor day for the gulf coast. I don't mind grilling under the patio. LOL I have already planned our menu for the hurricane crew here at the radio station. If it looks like an evacuation is going to be ordered I'll make a grocery run for the crew here. You know you can count on us to be here to keep you informed. We are not disc jockeys; we are broadcasters. We do realize and intend to fulfill our obligations to the community we serve.

NEW OFFICE POLICY

Dress Code:

1) You are advised to come to work dressed according to your salary.

2) If we see you wearing Prada shoes and carrying a Gucci bag, we will assume you are doing well financially and therefore do not need a raise.

3) If you dress poorly, you need to learn to manage your money better, so that you may buy nicer clothes, and therefore you do not need a raise.

4) If you dress just right, you are right where you need to be and therefore you do not need a raise.

Sick Days:

We will no longer accept a doctor's statement as proof of sickness. If you are able to go to the doctor, you are able to come to work.

Personal Days:

Each employee will receive 104 personal days a year. They are called Saturdays & Sundays.

Bereavement Leave:

This is no excuse for missing work. There is nothing you can do for dead friends, relatives or co-workers. Every effort should be made to have non-employees attend the funeral arrangements in your place. In rare cases where employee involvement is necessary, the funeral should be scheduled in the late afternoon. We will be glad to allow you to work through your lunch hour and subsequently leave one hour early.

Bathroom Breaks:

Entirely too much time is being spent in the toilet.  There is now a strict three-minute time limit in the stalls. At the end of three minutes, an alarm will sound, the toilet paper roll will retract, the stall door will open, and a picture will be taken. After your second offense, your picture will be posted on the company bulletin board under the 'Chronic Offenders' category. Anyone caught smiling in the picture will be sectioned under the company's mental health policy.

Lunch Break: (Love this one)

* Skinny people get 30 minutes for lunch, as they need to eat more, so that they can look healthy.

* Normal size people get 15 minutes for lunch to get a balanced meal to maintain their average figure.

* Chubby people get 5 minutes for lunch, because that's all the time needed to drink a Slim-Fast.

Thank you for your loyalty to our company. We are here to provide a positive employment experience. Therefore, all questions, comments, concerns, complaints, frustrations, irritations, aggravations, insinuations, allegations, accusations, contemplations, consternation and input should be directed elsewhere.

The rain...the good, the bad and the ugly
Wednesday 08-20-2008 4:45pm CT
It is true that I like the rain. The only thing is that I like it when I can sit in my house and watch it. I don't even have a window in my office or studio here at work. I hated to get out of bed this morning. I love napping in a rain storm. I hate what this may do to the salt water fishing. This much fresh water could chase the salt water fish back into the gulf. I would really be mad if that happened. I was just starting to catch fish! The rain also makes my grass grow fast. My grass was already high and now it's higher and my yard has standing water. I don't know when my son will be able to mow it. It's gonna be tough. Oh well ... he's young. LOL
